Releases
Every release of Farkitect, newest first. Each has a number: a higher number is a newer release. To see which release you are on, choose Help > About in the app, or click the release line at the foot of the website or of these docs.
This list is the complete record, one entry per release. For the changes that matter most, explained month by month with links to the guides, see What's New.
October 2026
- Release 281These docsVideos in the docs: a new Videos page where you can watch Farkitect in use
The docs now have a Videos page, where you can watch Farkitect in use. The first video is A Random Walk Through Farkitect, a short unscripted tour of a small model. It plays in the page with your browser's own player. More videos will follow.
- Move element types between layers by dragging them in the Explorer
In the Explorer, you can now drag an element type onto another layer of its metamodel, one type or several at once. Its property types go with it and its Palette group changes; nothing else does. Until now a type made in the wrong layer had to be deleted and created again.
- Edit inheritance between metamodel types; Abstract now means cannot be created
You can now set which types a metamodel type inherits from, in the app, for element types and relationship types. A new Inheritance section in a type's Properties lists its superclasses and subclasses, with Add and remove. Removing a superclass asks first when elements hold values that depend on it: move the values into notes or discard them, with a project backup offered. Abstract now means what it says: nothing can be created as an abstract type, it leaves the Palette without also ticking Hidden from palette, and it shows in italics in the Explorer. Section headings in a type's Properties now say what is inside, such as "Property Types · 1 + 2 inherited", and Is Subordinate has moved into a Subordination section.
- Relationship constraints: changes wait for Save, with a Discard button
Changes to a relationship type's Constraints grid are no longer applied the moment you click. They wait until you click Save, and Discard puts the grid back as it was, so a stray click on a row name, Select All or Clear All can no longer change your metamodel by accident. While changes are waiting, "Unsaved changes" shows under the grid, the section heading reads "Constraints · unsaved", and each changed box has an amber outline. Everything else in a type's Properties still saves as you edit it.
- Fix: relationship icons show dashed and dotted line patterns
The small line beside each relationship type now shows that type's line pattern: dashed, dotted or solid. Every one was being drawn solid. You will see it in the Explorer, the Palette, the Context panel, the Properties header and the list of relationship types offered when you connect two elements.
- Fix: metamodels generated by FarkiBot import when abstract types have no notation
A metamodel file could fail to import with a long technical error when one of its abstract types had no notation. An abstract type has no appearance of its own, so files written by FarkiBot leave the notation out. Such a type now imports and is given a plain notation. If an import of a FarkiBot-generated metamodel failed for you with "does not match the schema", import the same file again.
- FarkiBot: clearer key errors, and switching provider keeps your model
Three fixes for connecting FarkiBot straight to a provider. Test connection now says why it failed, adding the provider's own reason where it showed only a status such as "HTTP 400". The LLM list now loads after you replace a key that did not work; before, it stayed a plain text box until the app was reloaded. And your model carries across a change of provider: the same model has a different name on OpenRouter and on Anthropic, and FarkiBot was sending the old name and getting "model not found". For a direct Anthropic key, create it in a workspace and not for the whole organisation; FarkiBot Settings now says so beside the key field.
- Hide relationships in the Explorer for a shorter, clearer tree
The Explorer toolbar has a new button, Hide relationships, that takes the relationships out of the tree and leaves the model's elements and views. In most models that removes more than half the rows. Click it again to show them. It only changes what the tree shows: diagrams, catalogs and exports still include every relationship. Your choice is remembered on that device.
- Release 273Internal maintenanceMaintenance: project notes brought up to date
- Release 272Internal maintenanceMaintenance: a migration to keep published starter files on the current format
- Properties and Notes on double-click, verb labels, and a spreadsheet-like catalog
Double-clicking on a diagram now does two clear things. Double-click a node or a relationship line to open its Properties and Notes in a window; Alt+Enter opens it too. Double-click the blue arrow in a node's corner to open its child diagram, or the paperclip to open its attached file; Enter on a selected node also drills down. Double-clicking the body of a node no longer drills down. A diagram can label each relationship line with just the verb of its type, in italics, such as "enables" in place of the full name: the Relationship labels button on the diagram toolbar is now a drop-down with Name, Verb and None. A row in a catalog has the same right-click menu as a card on a board, and the catalog's keys now follow a spreadsheet's. The .farki file format is now farki/1.5; older files import as before.
- Insert related elements: bring an element's neighbours onto the diagram in one step
Right-click an element on a diagram and choose Insert Related Elements to see everything it is directly related to. Tick the ones you want and they appear in a circle around the element, with their relationships drawn. Nothing already on the diagram moves, nothing is nested, and one undo takes it all back. The docs home page also gains a link straight to What's New.
- View links: link from a diagram to another diagram, catalog or board
Drag a diagram, catalog or board from the Explorer onto a diagram to get a view link; double-click it to open that view. Links connect a model's views like pages of a website, so you can present a model, tell its story step by step, or give people a contents page. A link can carry its own label (F2), be drawn as a bordered tile, and be aligned and sized together with nodes. Deleting a view removes the links to it, and a view's Properties list the diagrams that link to it. The .farki format is now farki/1.4; older files import as before. Also fixes an error when a board was selected with the Guidance panel open.
- Tab right-click menu, panels reopen in place, and a new default layout
Right-click any panel tab for Close, Close Others, Close to the Right and Close All; unsaved diagrams are asked about first. A panel you hide and show again now comes back where it was, instead of landing in the centre. New projects and Reset Layout use a new default layout, with Guidance beside Properties and Notes and the Log panel hidden until you ask for it.
- Narrow panel tabs, and the home page names its release
Settings > Appearance has a new Panel tabs choice. Narrow makes the tab bar at the top of every panel shorter, which leaves more room for the panels on a small screen; Regular remains the default. The pill at the top of the website's home page now names the release you are looking at, and clicking it shows the details.
- Settings dialog, a shorter View menu, and a friendlier docs home page
The app has a Settings dialog. View > Settings… (Ctrl+,), or the gear on the web app's menu bar, opens it; it holds the theme (Light, Dark or System), Reset layout and automatic metamodel refresh, with shortcuts to FarkiBot's settings and your account settings. The View menu is shorter and lists only what you show and hide. Metamodels now refresh automatically unless you turn that off, and a warning stays visible while it is off. The docs have a friendlier home page with quick routes to common topics, the Farkitect logo in the header, and What's New now lists the newest release first.
- Release numbers, Appearance on diagrams, and delete project from its menu
Every release now has a number. Help > About, and the line at the foot of the website and the docs, show which release you are on, when it went live in your own time zone, and each technical detail with a label that says what it is; a new Releases page in the docs lists every release. On a diagram, the Format section is now called Appearance, matches the metamodel's Appearance section, and stays open or closed as you click between nodes and edges, as do the sections of a metamodel type. Project admins can delete a project from its three-dot menu.
