How to create a child diagram

  1. Right-click an element on the Canvas or in the Explorer
  2. Select New Child Diagram
  3. Name the diagram and press Enter

The diagram is created as a child of the element. On the parent diagram, the element shows a drill-down indicator — a visual cue that a child diagram exists.

On the parent diagram, double-click the element with the drill-down indicator:

  • If the element has one child diagram, it opens directly
  • If the element has multiple child diagrams, a chooser appears — select the one you want

Click the parent diagram’s tab to return, or double-click it in the Explorer.

An element can have multiple child diagrams, each showing a different perspective (e.g., internal components, deployment, data flows). Each gets its own drill-down indicator entry.

In the Explorer, child diagrams appear as children of the element they belong to — not as children of the package:
