How to retarget an edge

Retarget an edge

  1. Click on the edge to select it
  2. Drag the source or target endpoint (the end of the edge where it meets a node)
  3. Drop it onto a different node

The relationship is updated — its source or target now points to the new element. The change applies to the model, not just the diagram.

Constraint enforcement

If the relationship type has pair-wise constraints, you can only retarget to element types that satisfy the constraints. Dropping onto an invalid target type will not be allowed.

  • Retargeting changes the model relationship, not just the visual edge — it affects all diagrams where the relationship appears
  • To change the direction of a relationship (swap source and target), retarget both endpoints
