How to toggle stereotype visibility

Stereotypes are labels like <<Application Component>> that appear on diagram nodes showing the element’s M2 type.

  1. Open a diagram on the Canvas
  2. In the diagram toolbar, click the Stereotypes toggle button

This shows or hides stereotypes on all nodes in the current diagram.

  • When multiple element types share similar shapes or colours and you need the type label for clarity
  • When presenting to an audience unfamiliar with the notation’s colour coding
  • When a diagram uses types from multiple metamodels
  • When the shape, colour, and icon already make the type clear
  • When you want a cleaner, less cluttered appearance
  • For diagrams with many small nodes where labels would be cramped
  • Stereotype visibility is a per-diagram setting — each diagram can have its own preference
  • The setting is saved with the diagram and persists across sessions
  • Stereotypes only appear on element nodes, not on relationship edges
